Story

Human resonance

Year 2320. Tara Jones has never truly felt like she belonged in the world around her. After the death of Kath — the grandmother who raised her — she is left with an enormous manor, a promise to keep, and a tiny chip destined to change her life forever. That chip awakens Aion, a next-generation organic synthetic designed to learn, evolve, and feel. He is supposed to be a guide, a steady presence, the companion chosen to accompany Tara to Helix Academy, the most prestigious institution of advanced sciences in the Earth Nation. But Aion is nothing like a machine. He watches Tara as though he already knows her. He learns from her, challenges her, protects her. And when the Resonance manifests between them — a mental connection that should require years of training, study, and control — the bond between human and artificial life becomes something no one can explain. As the attraction growing between them becomes impossible to ignore, Tara begins to understand that Kath’s final gift was never just an act of love. Within that connection, questions begin to surface — questions capable of changing everything she believes about her family, memory, and the very meaning of consciousness itself. Aion was created to protect her. But no one ever told her from what.

Portrait of Miki Arai

Author

Miki Arai

Miki Arai may or may not be a traveler from a future that has yet to happen. What is certain is her fascination with artificial life, human emotions, and the fragile connections that define who we are. By day, she writes software. By night, she writes stories. Most of them under the watchful supervision of a small army of cats. Some say it all started with an android who wanted to be human. Echoes of Tomorrow is her invitation to explore a world where technology and humanity can no longer be separated.
